Take your Child for a Ride with a Baby Bike Carrier
A baby bike carrier gives the parent a chance to spend time with her/his child and also makes the child familiar with road traffic. The child should be at least one year old. There are two ways to take a child for a bike ride. You can use a child seat or a bike trailer.
A child seat can be mounted above the bike's rear wheel or in front of the rider over the center of the bike's handle bar. Child seats cost about $45-120, depending on safety features of the seat. The parent needs some experience in riding a bike with a baby carrier. The parent should also practice to put the child into the seat and take her/him out again.
The front mounted seats seem to have some advantages. The parent can keep an eye on the child and have a conversation with the child. It is easier to put the child into the seat and take her out. The newer models have a provision to prevent the child from getting her/his feet caught in the spokes of the bike front wheel.
A child bike trailer is more stable and makes the handling of the bike easier. A trailer can carry larger children. Kids can also entertain themselves with toys and books. A trailer can also provide better weather protection from rain and sun. A child should always wear a helmet when riding in a bike carrier. Helmets for children are lightweight and comfortable. They cost about $20-35.
