Protect your Child
in the right Baby Car Seat

For the safety of your child, there is a legal requirement that children ride in a baby car seat or toddler car seat. Choosing the right one is not only important to satisfy the legal requirement, but also for the child's comfort and safety. It is one of the more significant baby products you will purchase.

There are basically three different sizes available: 1. A rear facing seat for babies who weigh less than 20 lbs. Look for the following features:

  • Seat with a handle is easier to carry.
  • An adjustable decline, so that the baby's head is always supported.
  • A 3 or 5 point adjustable harness to keep the baby always snug and secure.
  • A base that can remain in the car.
Price range is about $40-200.

2. A convertible car seat can function as a rear facing infant seat or as a front facing toddler seat. It is designed for children who weigh between 20-40 lbs. Most models have a 5 point harness system. Price range is about $80-230.

3. A booster/toddler car seat is front facing. It is made for children who weigh about 30-80 lbs. These children have outgrown convertible seats, but are still too young to use adult safety belts.

If you consider purchasing a used car seat, be especially careful. These seats might not comply with safety standards or might have hidden defects.
