Recognize Baby Colic Symptoms
What are baby colic symptoms? In general, these are abdominal pains or cramps that young babies have.
The following symptoms are signs that your baby has colic:
- Baby seems fussy, usually after feeding
- Baby is constantly crying
- Baby appears to have abdominal cramps or gas
Usually, symptoms can develop when the baby is about 3 weeks old. They generally stop when the baby is
3-4 months old.
Some babies are allergic to formula made from cow's milk. They can develop cramps from that type of formula. Consult your doctor to determine, if changing the
formula would help.
Some babies swallow air when being bottle fed. This can also cause colic. Check the teat periodically
to make sure that it has proper flow. Changing to angle flow bottles or natural flow bottles might help.
These are things you can do to help the baby:
- Many babies calm down, if they are rocked
- Some babies feel better, if they are held tightly
- Sometimes a car ride will help the baby
- Make the baby burp more often
Call the doctor if:
- The symptons lasts longer than 4 months
- The baby has fever
- The baby is not gaining weight
- The baby cries and vomits
