Cradle for Convenience

A baby cradle is one of the first baby products that a parent might buy. It is smaller than a regular crib.

The smaller size allows it to be moved from room to room. The baby is then always close to the parent. Curved rockers at the bottom allows the parent to rock it back and forth. The swinging motion helps the baby fall asleep. Cradles are used from birth until the baby is about 4 months old or can roll from side to side.

Cradles come in a variety of styles and finishes. Some feature solid hardwood construction and are easy to assemble. Good features are a metal support under the bottom panel and a locking pin to stabilize the cradle when rocking is not needed. Casters for easy movement are convenient. Average price is about $65-165.

Deluxe models that are handcrafted from selected hardwoods like oak, ash or maple cost about $350-470.

Most bedding sets will include a padded bumper, a fitted sheet and a lightweight comforter. A bumper is an essential item to keep the baby safe. A padded bumper protects the baby, when the baby can roll from side to side.
