A Baby Crib Mattress
should be firm and comfortable

A baby crib mattress is one of the more important items that you will purchase. Your baby will spend about half of her/his time in her crib. Not only is the quality of the mattress important, but also safety. It should be made of quality materials, should be comfortable and provide good support for the baby.

There are two types: foam and innerspring. It does not matter what type you use, as long as it is firm and fits properly.

A foam mattress is lightweight and cheaper than an innerspring mattress. Changing sheets is very easy. If you are considering a foam mattress, be sure it is firm and reinforced with vinyl or cotton covering. Price is about $80-100.

An innerspring mattress is made of coiled springs covered with a layer of foam and cotton fabric. It is more expensive and usually lasts longer. It is preferred by most parents. The coil count generally is an indication of the firmness. A higher count of coils means better quality. Price is about $90-200.
