Follow Baby Crib Safety
to keep your Infant save

Baby crib safety has greatly improved, but there are still many crib injuries. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has set safety standards to insure crib safety.

The most important standard states that the vertical bars must be no further then 2 3/8 inches apart to prevent babies from slipping through or becoming stuck between them. The bars must be sturdy and have no defects.

Consider the following, when purchasing a crib:

  1. Cribs on wheels are convenient, but be sure that the wheels can be locked. Otherwise older children can push the crib around. It is best if the crib has no wheels.
  2. The mattress should have a good fit and should be firm.
  3. Mattress hangers allow the mattress to be lowered or raised. The hangers must be securely fastened to the corners of the crib.
  4. Bumper pads are cushions that are tied around the inside of the crib. This will prevent the baby from hitting his head against the crib bars. Bumper pads must be securely tied to the crib.
  5. Mattress covers should have a good fit.
  6. Never keep cushions or blankets in the crib.
  7. Always raise the crib sides to full height.
  8. Do not keep large toys or pillows in the crib. Children might use them to step on and climb over the railing.
  9. It is best to put the crib about one foot away from walls or furniture. Never put the crib next to a window or drapery.

Always follow the above basic crib safety rules to make sure that your baby is safe.
