Proper Baby
Diaper Change Routine

With a little practice, baby diaper change is very easy. Decide, where you are going to change the diaper. The first few times, it might be a good idea to change the diaper on the floor. Put the baby on a mat or towel.

Then follow these steps:

  • Get the items you need: a clean diaper, wipes, diaper ointment and baby powder. Lay the diaper on the mat and put your baby on top of the diaper.
  • Take off the baby clothes and hold the baby's feet up. With the clean part of the dirty diaper, wipe away some of the stool. Fold the dirty diaper and use the tabs to hold it together. Use baby wipes to clean the baby's bottom.
  • Remove the dirty diaper and dirty wipes and put them in a small plastic grocery shopping bag. Lay the baby bottom on the clean diaper. Use baby powder or ointment, if the baby's skinis a little red. If necessary, use diaper rash cream.
  • The front of the diaper should be at the baby's waist. Pull up the back of the diaper to make it about even with the front. Fasten the tabs to the front.
  • Diaper changes should be done often to prevent diaper rash.
