A Baby shower is given for new mothers to celebrate the arrival of the new baby and to help get new baby items.

It is best to send written invitations, which you can make by hand or you can buy more formal printed invitations. Always include all necessary information. Don't forget to include directions or a map. If it is a small group, you can make invitations by phone or send emails.

To make it a surprise, you should get the help of a close friend of the mother to be, to assure a complete guest list and to find out what day and time would be best. If it is not a surprise, the planning is much easier and can avoid scheduling conflicts.

Usually, showers are held at the home of the hostess. Evening dinners are great if you want to invite men. Depending on the region, a picnic at the park would be good if you want to include children. For smaller groups you could reserve space at a restaurant.

You can make the gathering more successful, if you use a specific theme for all the decorations, invitations, games and food. It will make everybody feel more appreciated, if you hand out party favors to the winner of your games.
