If you need a babysitter on specified days, try to find a sitter that can sit on those days. It might be a good idea to pay a little extra in order to keep the same sitter. In general, the rate varies from $5-15 per hour, depending on the area you live. How to choose a babysitter? Some say a child is not qualified for babysitting until age 14. But the parent should be able to judge, if a younger sitter is qualified. If your child is an infant, the babysitter should have experience in dealing with young children. It would be ideal, if the sitter has taken classes for CPR and first aid or a high school class on babysitting. The parent should make sure that the sitter does not drink alcohol, smoke or have friends visiting without permission. Always ask the babysitter for references, unless the babysitter is recommended by friends or relatives. It is best to agree on the rate and method of payment before hiring the babysitter.
