A bag with a hood and a zippered lining would be a good choice for cold nights. It should fit the child and have enough room for the child to move around. The child should also be able to zip it open or close it by herself. If the child is only 3 or 4 years of age, consider purchasing a bag that allows you to add extensions. It will always fit well and with extensions can be used until the child is about 10 years old. For outdoor sleeping you might want to consider a sleeping pad. These pads provide cushioning and insulation from cold grounds. Price range for a plain sleeping bag is about $25-50. For hooded, zippered or personalized models, the price can go up to $200.
