Decorating the
Baby Nursery can be Fun

Decorating the baby nursery or child's room can be fun, but before you start, write down some ideas and prepare a list of items you will need.

Here are some considerations:

  • One way to decorate a baby nursery or room is around a theme or color. Review magazines or decorating books to gather ideas for colors or a theme.
  • Color is important and can have various effects. Pink provides a calming effect and is best for girls. Light blue is a soft and best for boys. Soft green represents peace.
  • Consider to combine colors with furniture and accessories.
  • Choose a main point, which most likely will be the crib or toddler bed. A colorful wall, a wall mural or wall paper could also be the focal point.
  • Bedding is an important consideration. It should blend in with a theme or color. Soft, light colors and cotton material is preferred.
  • Keep enough room to store toys, books and games. If you use a toy chest, make sure it blends in. There should be room for a desk to do home work and a place for a computer.
  • If the walls are not wallpapered, colorful area rugs with game patterns create fun and entertainment. You can match the bedding in the room with colors of the rug.

When decorating a child's room, safety should be a main concern. Keep electrical cords out of the way, use double faced tape under the area rugs and use safe toy boxes.
