Disposable Baby Diapers

Disposable baby diapers or cloth baby diapers? A decision every new parent has to make. There are pros and cons for each type. You need to consider differences between these two types.

Disposables are convenient and easy to use when traveling or just visiting friends. Diaper change is easy. Just take off the wet diaper, use 2-3 baby wipes to clean the child and then put on a clean diaper.

Disposables are more expensive. Some estimate that for one child they cost $200-300 a year more than cloth diapers. But the cost can be reduced, if you look for sales promotions or use coupons. Quite often one can find $2 coupons in the Sunday paper for the major brands.

The major brands are Huggies, Pampers and Luvs. The Luvs brand is about 10-15% lower in price than Huggies or Pampers.

During the last few years the quality of store brands has improved. These generic brands can save you about 15-20% over brand name diapers. The Walmart diaper White Cloud is well regarded.

Sizes are generally as follows:

  • newborn size fits up to 2 months old babies
  • infant size fits 2-5 months old babies
  • size 2 fits babies, who weigh 12-18 lbs
  • size 3 fits babies, who weigh 16-28 lbs
  • size 4 fits babies, who weigh 22-37 lbs
  • size 5 fits toddlers, who weigh 27-40 lbs
  • size 6 fits toddlers, who weigh 35-50 lbs
