Medela Breast Pumps

Medela was founded in 1961 in Switzerland. It markets Medela breast pumps and breastfeeding accessories. A breast pump allows a mother to give the baby breast milk when breastfeeding is not possible or is inconvenient.

Medela makes a variety of pumps. To choose one, you need to decide, if it will be used daily or just occasionally.

1. Hospital grade pumps are recommended for mothers who are unable to nurse. They work fast and efficient. They can be rented from hospitals or medical equipment rental stores.
2. Professional models are a little less efficient than hospital models. Many professional models include dual pumps for emptying both breasts at the same time. They are recommended, if the mother is employed full time.
3. Pumps for occasional use are for mothers, who need to pump a few times a week.

The Pump in Style original is Medela's most popular model. It is designed for daily use. Everything you need is contained in a convenient shoulder bag. Price is about $250. The Pump in Style advanced costs about $320.

The Symphony breast pump is Medela's newest model. It is a hospital grade dual pump. It is available for purchase or rental. Purchase price is about $1200-1300.

Manual and electric Medela models are available that are lightweight and portable.
