Medela was founded in 1961 in Switzerland. It markets Medela breast pumps and breastfeeding accessories. A breast pump allows a mother to give the baby breast milk when breastfeeding is not possible or is inconvenient.

1. Hospital grade pumps are recommended for mothers who are unable to nurse. They work fast and efficient. They can be rented from hospitals or medical equipment rental stores.

The Symphony breast pump is Medela's newest model. It is a hospital grade dual pump. It is available for purchase or rental. Purchase price is about $1200-1300.

Manual and electric Medela models are available that are lightweight and portable.



The Medela single deluxe breast pump is Medela's most popular handheld, electric breast pump. It is intended for occasional use.

It is lightweight, compact and portable. The one handed suction control lets you set an appropriate comfort level. It is safe for collection, storage and feeding of breast milk.

Included is an AC adapter, 1 breast shield, 1 valve, 3 membranes, 1 breast milk collection container with lid, 1 container stand, a breastfeeding information guide and an instruction manual. Price is about $50-70.



The Swing breast pump is a single, electric model that uses the 2 Phase Expression technology. This technology reduces pumping time. The pump is portable and can be used with a belt clip, with a shoulder strap or on a table top. Vacuum and speed are adjustable for customizable comfort.
