Potty Training Solutions

When the child reaches about 2 years of age, it is time to begin potty training. Some toddlers will start using the potty in a few days, but quite often it is only temporary. In most cases, it will take several weeks or even a few months to make it a habit.

There are a few things that can be done before actually starting to train. Buy the potty seat a few weeks ahead of training. The child will see it and the parent can explain what it is for. A potty with colorful material or with music might be fun for the toddler to use and reduce training time. The price for a potty is about $ 8-65.

Dr. Phil, who has a television talk show, recommends using a doll that wets. With this doll the parent can show the toddler how to go potty.

Make it easy for the toddler to take his cloth off and put on again. There are training pants available that are easy to put on and pull down. Pull Ups or Easy Ups are fine, but some recommend not to use them. They claim that it might discourage the toddler to use the potty. It is best to use underpants during the day and for overnight Pull Ups.

Be patient when you start and reward your child with compliments and small rewards. Accidents will happen, but don't make a big deal out of it.
